Alicia was a beautiful lady. She was the teenager in high school that everyone wanted to be. She had been the most popular girl in the school. That was until she met Nick. Nick had been one of the unpopular people that when anyone dated him they too would be named unpopular forever but Alicia couldn’t help herself. She fell for Nick the minute their eyes met one day in the school corridors. Nick had pulled Alicia out of the made up world of parties and bad grades and pulled her into a routine of studying and nights spent at home with her feet up in front of the television.
Everything had been great until they got married and then Nick changed Alicia’s life again. Alicia changed from an unpopular school girl into a married wife whose husband abused her. Alicia’s once professionally dyed and styled hair was no longer soft and glistening but instead it was limp and lifeless and her once fresh looking spotless face turned wrinkled and huge bags had formed under each of her sparkle-less eyes. Nick had changed Alicia and made her into an unhappily married agoraphobic lady.
Alicia had married Nick when she was twenty-one years old. Her parents had told her not to marry him, they told her he was bad news but she didn’t listen. When Alicia turned twenty-six she began to wish that she had listened to her parents when she was younger.
Alicia and Nick lived together in a small country house in Bridgwater, Somerset where Alicia stayed alone in the house while Nick worked. Although Alicia hated being left at home alone she preferred it when Nick was out at work because if she had any accidents Nick wouldn’t be around to shout and abuse her.
Alicia dreamt of getting divorced from Nick and finding a man that loved and cared for her. She dreamt of being able to face her fears, get out of the house and get a job but Alicia knew as long as she was with Nick living in that house that would never happen but she couldn’t face Nick and tell him that she wanted to move out. She couldn’t move out as she was too scared to do so.
